Breast Asymmetry Atlanta

Few women have perfectly symmetrical breasts, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). It’s very common to have mild breast asymmetry, but a larger and more noticeable discrepancy in breast size can affect your self-esteem or ability to find clothing or bras. Atlanta cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marisa Lawrence is extremely sensitive to the needs of women who are concerned about breast asymmetry and therefore offers several treatment options to restore their confidence. If you are embarrassed about asymmetry between your breasts, rest assured that there is a solution suited to your personal needs.

What Causes Breast Asymmetry?

In many cases, the cause of asymmetrical breasts is congenital. Other women may notice a significant difference in the size of their breasts after pregnancy, breastfeeding or extreme weight loss. Or, perhaps a lumpectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis has made the breasts look uneven.

Studies published in the ASAPS’s publication Aesthetic Surgery Journal showed a notable increase in the subjects’ quality of life after treatment of breast asymmetry.  The study measured eight dimensions of health status and found enhanced physical, social and psychological well-being.

Correcting Breast Asymmetry

There are several ways to approach breast asymmetry treatment, and there are a number of potential incision placements. Dr. Lawrence will review your options and discuss which will provide the most benefit in your unique case. Options include:

  • Breast implants: Dr. Lawrence may place an implant in the smaller breast, or she may place implants in both breasts (one implant will be larger than the other).
  • Breast reduction: Dr. Lawrence may remove excess fat and skin from the larger breast.
  • Breast lift: Dr. Lawrence may lift one of the breasts so that it is positioned closer to the other.

The surgical technique used depends on the method decided by you and Dr. Lawrence.
