Lip Augmentation Atlanta

Lip augmentation is a great option for those who dislike the appearance of thin or flat lips. Augmenting the lips not only creates fullness and plumpness, it also revitalizes aging lips and can reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth. Atlanta lip augmentation provider Dr. Marisa Lawrence offers a variety of options to choose from, each of which can give you the plump pout that you desire.

Collagen

Collagen was once considered the go-to injectable for lip plumping and it is still used today. However, modern aesthetic medicine has yielded more options. The downside to collagen injections is that the collagen is gradually absorbed by the body and treatment must be repeated to maintain your results. Also, using collagen requires a skin allergy test to prevent any reaction.

Other Injectables

Restylane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid-based fillers that can plump the lips for three to six months. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, which means that these treatments are biocompatible and the risk of allergic reaction is rare. Injectable treatment can be performed in our office during a short appointment.

Fat Transfer

Some patients choose to have their own fat harvested from other areas of the body (e.g., the thighs or abdomen) and injected into the lips to plump them. However, some of the fat cells may die when injected, and your body will eventually absorb the fat, requiring additional treatment to maintain your results. If you are unsatisfied with your results, this can be a positive effect.

Lip Implants

Implants are easily inserted, generally well-tolerated and most models have a pliable and natural feel. Also, unlike collagen or fat transfer techniques, lip implants provide permanent results. Implants are placed through small surgical incisions inside the corners of the mouth. Implant options include Alloderm, Fore-Tex and SoftForm.

Recovering from Lip Augmentation

Recovery from lip augmentation varies depending on which method is used. Generally there is little to no downtime with non-surgical treatment; patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine with few side effects.

If you have a lip implant placed, you may feel mild discomfort for a few days and experience some bleeding or swelling.

Risks of Lip Augmentation

Risks of lip augmentation with an implant include rejection, migration or extrusion of the implant. If any of these occur you will need another surgery to remove or reposition the implant. Injectable treatments can cause redness, swelling or itching at the injection site. Fat injections may cause lumping or scarring or complications at the donor site. Other potential lip augmentation complications include bleeding, infection and asymmetrical results. Despite the risks, many patients are quite happy with the results of their lip augmentation.
