Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure performed to lift sagging breasts. It can also reduce the size of the areola or dark skin surrounding the nipple. Conditions that can cause sagging breasts include breast feeding, major weight loss, or natural effects of time. The surgery can be minor enough to be performed under local anesthesia as an office procedure or it can require general anesthesia in a hospital.
Even if general anesthesia is required, most patients go home the same day. The amount of time off from work varies from one day to as much as two weeks. The degree of discomfort is minor and is well controlled with oral medications. The scars can be limited to the areola area or it can be more extensive require both vertical and horizontal incisions.
