The Beauty of a Mid-Life Crisis
By Avery Nichols

Teri Calborne of Clalborne’s Salon & Spa, in Marietta, is a fiery and feisty middle-aged woman who now looks at least 10 years younger, thanks to her mid-life crisis. "Some people buy bigger better cars with high price tags, but me, wanted a younger face," admits Terri, While some people feel that in order to took good, one must feel good, Terri believes the exact opposite. "l believe that if you look good, you automatically feel great!" she boasts. This particular baby boomer isn’t afraid to voice her opinion, and while her views may be a bit different than the norm, Teri is confident that she is right on target. It’s evident to all who are in her presence that she feels great because she looks so damn good.

Having smoked cigarettes since she was 14-years-old, Ten knew the time had come for her to quit - cold turkey. She had put on a few extra pounds through-out the years and was ready to begin feeling better, both physically and emotionally. "I needed a complete change - mind, body, soul, and face!" Teri notes. Within six months, Teri had quit smoking entirely and was 30 pounds lighter, attributable to the low-carb diet, She exercised daily using her home gym, and she believes that exercise should be consistent; otherwise, laziness and other obligations interfere and hinder progress. "I credit much of my weight loss to Britney Spears", Terri jokes, "because I’d watch MTV while exercising. She motivated me to shed the pounds and get a rockin’ body!

Even with a rockin’ body and a healthier mindset, Ten was still not finished with her mid-life makeover, She starred noticing sagging skin in unwanted areas due to her weight loss, and though she was happy about the lifestyle changes she had made, she was dissatisfied with the physical results, She contacted Marisa Lawrence, MD, FACS, who is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and currently serves as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Northside Hospital. Dr. Lawrence has had several years of experience as a cosmetic surgeon and performs various cosmetic procedures, so when Ten came to her with a deep desire to tighten her flabby skin and look younger. Dr. Lawrence was equipped to resolve her problem areas.

During Teri’s consultation with Dr. Lawrence, it was decided that she would undergo three surgical operations: an enhancement and enlargement of the breasts through the use of saline or silicone implants, an eye "lift’ through the removal of redundant skin and excess fat, and a facelift. According to Dr. Lawrence, "These types of cosmetic surgical operations are recommended for patients who complain of sagging skin and desire a refreshed appearance". On April 16, Dr. Lawrence successfully performed all three procedures at once.

Five months Iater and looking ten years younger, Teri is beaming with confidence. Her ever-present smile, optimism, and self-assurance are infectious, and it’s apparent that she feels good about herself. She maintains her youthful appearance by continuing to not smoke, eating a balanced diet, exercising daily and avoiding exposure to the sun. "I am not afraid of aging," says Teri, "but I don’t have to look old in the process." Teri Claiborne is living proof that a mid-life crisis is simply a mid-life conquest over age, and beauty wins!
