Marisa Lawrence M.D., F.A.C.S.

Blepharoplasty Atlanta

The eyes are vulnerable to the effects of aging, and can make you look unnecessarily tired, angry or sad. To address these effects, Atlanta board-certified plastic surgeon Marisa Lawrence offers surgical correction of the eyelids. Dr. Lawrence is technically astute and pays close attention to detail, which enables her to deliver outstanding results to her patients.

What Does Eyelid Surgery Treat?

Upper eyelid surgery treats saggy skin that obscures the natural fold of the upper lids or droops into the line of sight. Lower eyelid surgery treats puffy lower lids and bags underneath the eyes. Upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed separately or may be combined, depending on your needs.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Lawrence makes incisions within the natural fold of the upper eyelid, extending slightly beyond the outside corner of the eye. She removes excess skin and fatty tissue and may tighten the muscles of the eyelid. For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Lawrence will conceal the surgical incisions just below the lower eyelashes or within the lower eyelid. She will remove excess skin, tighten the muscles or redistribute fat to eliminate puffiness. The surgical incisions are then closed with tiny sutures.

Recovering from Eyelid Surgery

You will probably experience mild to moderate swelling and bruising while recovering from eyelid surgery. Your vision may also be slightly blurred. It’s best to keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses, as recommended by Dr. Lawrence. Avoid strenuous activities, bending or lifting right after surgery. You will be allowed to return to your regular routine and start to wear eye makeup about 10 days after surgery.

Blepharoplasty Risks

Eyelid surgery risks include infection, changes in sensation, scarring, reactions to the anesthesia, unsatisfactory results, the need for revisions and hematoma. Dr. Lawrence can explain these risks in further detail during your surgical consultation.
